Constance Bolston's Story
Hello, my name is Constance, and I am a 63-year-old single mom of a 7-year-old autistic son. His name is Romeo, and he is my blessing. A complete stranger showed up at my door and said she needed help. I let her in because it was hot (July), and she was pregnant. I'm a mom and would want someone to help my daughters if they were ever in a bad place. While trying to find her some assistance she fell asleep. She said she needed a place to stay. She slept on my couch for 3 days and then she was gone. Later that morning I received a call from the hospital telling me she was in labor, and they were keeping her. I explained to them that I didn't know her but I would be there for her so she wouldn't be alone. When I arrived, I suited up and went into the delivery room. She had to have a c section and was very happy to see me. I watched that beautiful baby enter the world, followed him to the nursery and was the first to hold him. He snuggled up to me and I was a mess. For 3 days I was at the hospital EVERYDAY.
Nurses said she didn't have much to do with him and that she may have some post-partum depression. Social workers were trying to find them a place to go when discharged but she refused their help. DFACS was called to get the baby because they couldn't release a baby from hospital homeless. I didn't want to be the reason she lost her baby, so I let her come back to my home. DFACS told her she had 6 weeks to get suitable housing, or they would take her baby. From the very beginning I had to care for the baby because she showed no interest. By the time she had her 6-week checkup, I knew she had problems and DFACS did as well. She packed her few belongings and left. She said she was coming back for her baby. I asked family services if I could keep the baby until they could find placement.
When Romeo was about 16 months old, I got served papers to go to court. I had not spoken to anyone since the mom left. I had no
clue what was going on. I got to court to find out that the child was placed in state custody in my care after the mom left and I could keep him as long as needed to place him. It's been 7 years now. These are rough times. And I know there are a lot of families in need. We live with my daughter who is a single mom as well, but she has support from her children's dad and family. I don't know who my baby's father is. I only receive SSDI. Even though I live with family I'm still responsible for my half of rent, which is $600. I also pay the internet because I home school Romeo and don't want to take any chances with someone not being able to pay and he miss school. I pay my life insurance and I have about $100 left. I still have to buy our personal hygiene items, which includes pullups for him averaging around $40, as well as his learning tools.
I'm unable to provide him with any gifts this year. We both had covid in September but because I have an auto immune disease, it really did a number on me. My son is a really sweet child. He is a loving and giving child. He deserves a Christmas miracle. I know it will mean the world to him and me. I also dont want him to wake up Christmas morning and the other kids have and he doesn't. There is a reason God blessed me with this handsome little boy. I don't know who saved who but we are together for a reason. There was no Christmas last year. He has no toys and a bike he has outgrown. I would like to be considered for this Christmas blessing. I don't want anything for myself. Every child deserves to wake up Christmas morning to presents. I know there is more to Christmas than just gifts.
Romeo is in tune with his spiritual self...he believes in God, and he knows to get to heaven you got to live right and make good decisions. It broke my heart when he asked me how come he don't get presents like the other kids. He says he is good, and he makes God happy, but he doesn't ever get rewarded. We will be OK. We are not in the cold. We have food to eat. Things could be worse, so we are grateful. I didn't know what else to do, this ad popped up out of nowhere on my next-door app and I thought it's worth a try. Maybe that was God sending me a message. If not chosen it's still OK. GOD provides and my son and I will be just fine. There are plenty more Christmases we have to look forward too together and it's our Dream to be able to have our own space someday. ✨️ Happy Holidays and Continued Blessings to your ministry. This is a beautiful thing you are doing. Sincerely Constance
